Let your thoughts drift on by, like sail boats on a lake.
The mind can only think one thought at a time and the same goes for concentration.
Try it!
This means that you can only give full attention to one thing at a time, despite the people who insist that they can multi-task quite effectively. Duties and responsibilities would be completed more efficiently when one item at a time is finished before moving onto the next.
Distractions, either physical or mental, prevent you from successfully concluding the daily to-do list. Other thoughts, such as the criticizing voice inside you, can discourage you from trying new things.
By focusing the mind on a positive repetitive word or phrase you automatically begin to quieten your mind and teach it to focus.
Have you ever found yourself settling down to gaze at the ocean or listen to music only to find that all the other images and sounds have disappeared because you have drifted so deeply into the view before you or have followed the notes of the music so intently?
Using an affirmation has a similar effect of inducing deep concentration and single pointed focus. It also has the additional benefit of promoting positive thoughts and behavior by blocking out negative beliefs and opinions that creep in when you least expect them to.
Create your own affirmations that best suit your own daily needs using positive affirmative language. Repeat an affirmation whenever you feel or catch yourself thinking or saying a negative thought.
